The PEST suite provides a family of utility programs that can read an RRF file (i.e. a run results file) produced by PEST/BEOPEST/PEST_HP. Some of these programs simply extract some of the contents of this file, or list its contents in another format. Others do much more powerful processing of model run results that are contained in this file.

Programs which read and/or manipulate RRF files are listed in the following table.

RRFCAT	Concatenates two RRF files.
RRFCULL	Removes user-specified run results from an RRF file.
RRFCLEAN	Cleans up an RRF file. (This includes removal of results of failed model runs.)
RRF2PAR	Extracts parameter sets from an RRF file into a series of indexed parameter value files.
RRF2PAROBS	Rewrites the contents of an RRF file as a sequence of "parameter-observation" (i.e. PAROBS) files.
PAROBS2RRF	Builds a single RRF file from a series of PAROBS files.
RRFAPPEND	Appends the contents of a PAROBS file to an RRF file.
RRF2TAB	Extracts all parameter and observation sets from an RRF file. Writes tabular data files that contain these sets. These files can be imported into a spreadsheet for statistical analysis.
RRF2CSV	Extracts all parameter and observation sets from an RRF file. Writes CSV files that contain these sets. These files can be imported into a spreadsheet for statistical analysis.
PARREP_RRF	Reads a user-specified set of parameters from an RRF file. Inserts these into a PEST control file as initial parameter values.
RRFCALCPSI	Calculates objective functions for all model run results that are recorded in an RRF file.
RRF2JCO	Calculates a rank-deficient approximation to a Jacobian matrix from all model run results that are recorded in an RRF file.

The last two of these programs can be very useful, particularly RRFCALCPSI. You can alter weights in a PEST control file (adding/subtracting covariance matrices if you wish), and recalculate objective functions for the many sets of model outputs that are stored in the RRF file.

Some of the programs in the following table (and in the preceding table pertaining to RRF files) can facilitate exchange of data between the PEST and PEST++ suites.

Programs from both the PEST and PEST++ suites support use of an "enhanced Jacobian matrix file". Actually, this file has nothing to do with Jacobian matrices. So let us refer to it simply as a "JCB file". This is a binary file that can often be used interchangeably with a CSV file. As such, it can hold random parameter values, or model outputs calculated from random parameter values.

EJROW2VEC	Extracts a row from a JCB file, storing its contents in PEST matrix file format.
EJROWCOL	Lists the names of rows and columns in a JCB file.
JCB2RRF, JCB2RRF1	Records the contents of two complementary JCB files (one holding parameters and the other holding corresponding observations) as an RRF file.
JCB2CSV	Rewrites the contents of a JCB file as a CSV file.
CSV2JCB	Rewrites the contents of a CSV file as a JCB file.
JCB2PAR	Rewrites the contents of a JCB file as one or many parameter value files.
JCB2AVEPAR	Writes a parameter value file which lists averages of random parameter values listed in a JCB file.
JCBCOMB	Combines the contents of two JCB files.
CSV2PAR	Extracts a single set of random parameters from a CSV file and records them in a parameter value file.
RANDOBS	Writes a CSV file containing noise-enhanced observation values. These can be used by PESTPP-IES.
