Random parameters

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

In this section we look at the generation of random numbers - lots of random numbers. These numbers can be parameter values. Or they can be numbers which populate hundreds of thousands of cells of a large three-dimensional model grid.

Why do we generate random numbers? To explore the uncertainties of predictions made by a model. Prior uncertainty analysis is easy; we explore this issue in the present section. Posterior uncertainty analysis is hard. We explore that issue in the next section.
