In other pages we explore the mechanics of using specialist parameterisation devices such as pilot points. This section presents a more general discussion of model parameters, with particular emphasis on the use of finite parameter differences in filling a Jacobian matrix.

We focus on three sections of the PEST control file. These sections are:

•the "parameter groups" section;

•the "parameter data" section; and

•the "prior information" section.

As for other chapters of these PEST help pages, the discussion that is provided herein should not be considered as a substitute for reading the PEST manual. It provides an introduction to the concepts behind PEST. The hope is that you can learn a lot by reading a little.
